On the 5th of May 2012 (Dutch Liberation Day) The Hague Beijing Challenge will commence.
A true test for those with a love of adventure. This rally, with the Chinese capital city as its’ final destination, will cover 11.000 kilometers and pass through the Siberian steppes as well as the Gobi Desert. The participants will be raising money for Terre des Hommes.
When the starting gun is fired by Mr. Frans Weisglas – ambassador for Terre des Hommes and former speaker of the Dutch House of Commons – it will signal the start of a special rally. Over a period of 4 weeks, 15 classic cars will make their way through Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia and Mongolia to finally reach Beijing in China. There will be little time to sit back and enjoy the scenery as the schedule is very tight. Added to this, the poor quality of the roads in Siberia and Mongolia means that the few rest days will be taken up with maintenance and repair of the vehicles..
Media are already showing a great deal of interest in this rally. This is in no small part due to the participation of fashion model Kim Feenstra and actor/television presentator Koert Jan de Bruin, who will also be taking their place behind the wheel.
This rally will be broadcasted in a weekly programme on RTL7 while The Hague reporter Gert-Jan Gerlach will be giving report for the regional TV channels.
